My last blog post was in 2013, 6 YEARS ago! I had a grand baby on the way and guess what? He is 6 years old and he is fabulous. But wait... there is more! I have a 2nd grandson too. Let me just take a moment to introduce you to my boys.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
John is 6 </div>
<span style="text-align: center;"> </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMWfy91n7l7AK6Qi8RzOqYyqa79sIg9pkZ4Qx2GpfTCiXhe5Jc_CWYQCeJ5TFr-T2J7ej8PyV76YGjo9QrvUZgJUZWElGbQPRrkioSggf8JId6JH7pCpGvxHTkkuHhu1mOfGSzM1VmEHSe/s1600/IMG_8472.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMWfy91n7l7AK6Qi8RzOqYyqa79sIg9pkZ4Qx2GpfTCiXhe5Jc_CWYQCeJ5TFr-T2J7ej8PyV76YGjo9QrvUZgJUZWElGbQPRrkioSggf8JId6JH7pCpGvxHTkkuHhu1mOfGSzM1VmEHSe/s320/IMG_8472.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So this is where I have been spending my time over the past several years. They are the absolute joy of my life. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On another note, I sold my house a little over 2 years ago and purchased a house with several acres in the country. My pottery work has been on hold since John was born. Unfortunately the new house does not have a studio space for me to work, yet! Hopefully before the end of the year I will be back working in clay, I miss it.</div>

Wow so it's 2013 and I haven't posted since October. There's a good reason for that I'm sure haha! Actually I've just been busy and still have a lot going on so here's a quick catch up.<br />
1st and most importantly my grand baby will be making his appearance anytime now and because I am hopelessly in love already and have a severe case of grandbaby-itis and I find my self buying ridiculously cute shit like this dog.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcHUEYDBZ__UpJl6c3XDwXBM4U0XpEYeRzZgmJnz5Vt1MJisTutQHipKQGB1Ir-IGjkwPiLUstOxWGZwvnHm0_c2cylghy1OiQlLz-z8wOXakOexFYBm7lLn_XIprw8Igk7VJ8ws2khF9K/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcHUEYDBZ__UpJl6c3XDwXBM4U0XpEYeRzZgmJnz5Vt1MJisTutQHipKQGB1Ir-IGjkwPiLUstOxWGZwvnHm0_c2cylghy1OiQlLz-z8wOXakOexFYBm7lLn_XIprw8Igk7VJ8ws2khF9K/s320/1.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Speaking of dogs, my 2 guys are doing great, they have company right now. I'm dog sitting for a while for my friends 2 dogs, they are cha-wennies (yeah I know lol) also ridiculously cute! But bad as all hell and in everything.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
That's the short version of the last few months. I'm back at work kind of, my studio is flooded again due to the crazy amount of rain we've been getting for the past week, so I get to clean up that horrible mess.<br />
Well it's late, bed time for me.<br />
<br />
OH!!!! My grandma name.... wanna know what it is? Yiayai which sounds like Yaya and I think that is the actual spelling I'm going to go with (Yaya). It's greek for grandmother, no I'm not greek but I don't think I'm a mom mom or a granny or a memaw either and I don't really like nana or meme or any of that grandma stuff so I picked Yaya the day after I learned I had a grand baby coming. Plus Yaya sounds fun and sweet and hey.... You tell me this picture doesn't have Yaya written all over it LOL<br />

I made a few faces. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3VVNa9jvyJTcgf0l5lJeJ5TTwbhYnhxznGTrlBr68pI3qmVJU2GjyY51aZ1cMU_iE_9DDzpQ6I1Ql2vXK31wXXxaj-BKNr7iAbxwg-F7Gk9jO9E2VHTA2C0qlxNOLtXsHjlDkkelDB5tV/s1600/mine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3VVNa9jvyJTcgf0l5lJeJ5TTwbhYnhxznGTrlBr68pI3qmVJU2GjyY51aZ1cMU_iE_9DDzpQ6I1Ql2vXK31wXXxaj-BKNr7iAbxwg-F7Gk9jO9E2VHTA2C0qlxNOLtXsHjlDkkelDB5tV/s320/mine.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Oh wait... I was talking about terracotta faces! Not my silly face! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made a large press mold for the face itself. After I remove the face from my mold I decorate it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the end I have these beautiful Garden Goddesses. They would be at home hanging on any wall or outside near your garden.</div>

I love his mouth. Is that weird? Denise Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395043495247006722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7033717411159034884.post-29236214336572151572012-09-20T21:07:00.000-07:002012-09-20T21:07:39.850-07:00The good, the bad and the ugly and...It's been a while since I blogged, geeze so much has happened I'm not sure where to begin. I have good and I have bad so I reckon I'll just start with the... bad? Ok so at the end of August we made a emergency road trip to Maryland after being contacted by one of my oldest and dearest friends Allison, that her dad had pancreatic cancer and stomach cancer and was given less than 2 weeks. Her dad Gordon was also my husbands high school teacher and really helped guide Mike into his profession Gordon always claimed that my husband was his favorite student ever and Gordon really meant a lot to him, he was Mike's mentor. Gordon passed away while we where there. My other bad news is my father in law has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I can't put into words how I feel, I love my father in law dearly and this just sucks. The other bad, well kinda good, but bad news is my mom had surgery yesterday on her leg, she's been walking around for over a year with a broken leg. Her original doctor put a rod in her leg after she broke it in a car accident, well he made the rod too long and her bone never healed. It's a mess. I tried to call her but haven't heard anything back which worries me, she lives in Florida so it's not like I can just stop by, but I know her husband would call if something was wrong. I'm sure she's probably just doped up and probably hating life right now. I hate waiting. But at least she'll be fixed.<br />
<br />
Quick change of subject wanna see my foot? It's gross. Let me tell ya how I did this trick, I was carrying a load of laundry out to the garage, there is one step down into the garage and of course I couldn't see where I was going because I had my arms full of clothes and when I took the step down into the garage BAM! instant pain. I stepped on something but didn't know what, so I held my breath, limped over to the washer and loaded it and came back into the house before I looked at my foot. Well turns out that a plastic cover to something on our lawn mower with screws sticking up out of it was laying in the floor and that's what got me. The screw head was sticking up and when I stepped in it the screw bent and drove the screw head up into the arch of my foot which left me with a 3/4 inch wide gash which was equally as deep and boy did I struggle to hold it together. I irrigated it myself and cleaned it really well, it was pretty intense. In any event, it's healing pretty well, the bruising has finally gone away, the whole arch of my foot was bruised black and blue.<br />
This is shortly after it happened (if you read my blog regularly you know I'm gonna show you my boo-boo's and if you don't read me regularly... guess what? I show my boo-boo's).<br />

I have projects all over my studio in the drying phase. I've switched what type of clay I use which kind of makes me nervous and I have 4 new glazes that I just mixed so that adds to my worry. Of course most all potters tell you to test before you glaze your pots. I'm one of those people that just says screw it, glaze everything and see what happens.<br />
I also took a try at making Christmas ornaments on the wheel, here are 2 samples of what I ended up with.<br />

OooooMy husbands birthday was a few days ago, anyone that knows me knows that I love birthdays (not my own of course haha), in my household we not only celebrate birthdays but we also do birthday eve and believe me, we all milk it for all it's worth. This year I got a little crafty with my husbands cake. Just to give you some background info, my whole family goes caving and my husband and oldest son are both on the cave and cliff rescue team for our county. Well obviously that's exactly where my mind went when I came up with this.<br />

That is a knot that has come up on my hand, it looks like another knuckle and hurts when I work too much with my hands or if I put pressure on it. I've had problems with that whole knuckle area of my hand since my unfortunate run in with a stubborn goat, he tried to head butt me and ended up pinning my hand against a pole. I've been trying to take it easy hoping that the knot would go down, no such luck.<br />

I jumped, my heart skipped a beat and then I discovered it was a tackle box and the shadow of my own foot. True story. Then I look up and notice I'm alone, the 3 guys that were with me left and went way down to the other end of the beach without telling me, or they may have told me and I completely blocked them out (I was blessed with the man gene that allows them to block out women when they are talking except in reverse, I have a bad habit of blocking out men and women and pretty much anyone that is talking to me especially when I get distracted by anything that moves or is sparkly. (Or it could be because I'm a really fast listener or be because I have the attention span of a grape). </span></span></span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Totally me</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I have a few rules in my "Denise rule book" I don't go into the ocean because I can't swim, well I can swim a tiny little bit, almost. I'm not scared of the water, I'm mostly scared of drowning in it or being eaten by something in it. I also don't usually turn my back to the ocean while I'm shell or sharks tooth hunting because I'm scared something will sneak up and grab me and drag me off to eat me, or because I've seen way too many scary movies, whichever. These are real fears of mine and I don't do swimming pools unless I can touch bottom. Well guess what, I totally swam in the ocean, well I snorkeled and swam, only had 15-20 mini panic attacks. I worked through it and swam! Better yet I found treasure! Sort of. I went snorkeling for sand dollars and I hit big time, it was awesome. I had an odd little fish stalk me for over an hour, it would just swim around me and check me out which made me nervous as all heck because I had the feeling he was all like <span style="line-height: 12px;">'here she is sharky... come get her'. Then I started to worry because I was pretty sure I was gonna get stabbed in the heart by a sting ray and they were basically laying on the floor of the ocean like IED's waiting for me to pass over them when I was snorkeling.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Notice the barb halfway up his tail, my brother caught this on his fishing line, I made/begged him to free it and he'll forever hold it against me :)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">It didn't help that my brother caught a sting ray the day before (the one in the picture above is the one he caught and released) and you know that's what killed Steve Irwin. I'm an ocean accident waiting to happen. So after the whole sea monster shadowy thing I'm like damn it! I should have a glass of wine, but at that point I'm so paranoid and freaked out about something that may or may not try to get me that I'm too scared to go up to the condo to get a glass. This is exactly why I should have a cabana boy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So now that I have all that out of the way, my vacation was spectacular. I was on an island accessible only by boat for 7 days and nights, I was on the beach every night until 3-4am, I fished, I swam (for real! I totally swam, it was awesomely terrifying) I collected lots of shells, sand dollars and sharks teeth.<br />

This of course is my darling son Levi. He started working part time for me a few weeks ago so that I can get more done. He's also starting to learn how Etsy works, he's filling orders, loading and unloading my kiln and has even created a few "masterpieces" himself. I'll share when we get back from vacation.<br />
Ohhh YES! my vacation starts Saturday morning, should be fun. I'm heading down to Florida with 2 of my siblings to visit with our mom, do some kayaking, fossil hunting, shell collecting and all the other cool stuff I can cram into my week.<br />

Shame on me! Well I'm not sure where to begin so I'll just jump in.<br />
I had to make a trip to Maryland, my dad was having a procedure done on his heart and I wanted to be there for it so off we went, even took Buddy with us because the poor guy has a little separation anxiety.<br />
<br />

He's tethered in the backseat so he can only reach me when my seat is reclined and when it is, he comes for snuggles :o) </div>
<br />

It must be turtle time in Maryland, I promise you I'd be willing to bet that we saw 50 or more in one day and every time I saw one I'd holler "Turtle!" and my youngest brother Cody would jump out and catch it and we'd turn it back loose. Finally after maybe after I hollered "turtle" for the 20th time and stopped quickly (no... I didn't slam on my breaks, it was just a quick stop. Really.) he just looked at me and said "really?" and of course I replied "Yeah! Go get em!" I'm an awesome pain in the ass like that LOL<br />
<br />
My strawberries have stopped putting out, I'm pretty sad about that, but my blueberries are putting out now so woohoo!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Oooo how about that! I swear I love being able to walk through my yard and catch a snack, hopefully my peach trees will hold on to some peaches this year, last year squirrels cleaned me out.<br />
<br />
I'm working feverishly, I finally have travel mugs listed in my Etsy store again and lots of new dunk mugs. I just unloaded some sweet dishes from my kiln today, I'll share later, maybe tomorrow.<br />
<br />

Hopefully I'm straight now and I can get on with work at a steady pace. My kiln fired today as a matter of fact, I almost forgot how to turn it on, not really but you know what I mean.<br />
After I loaded my kiln this morning and got it going, I pulled out some things that I made a while back and waxed the bottoms of them, I'll glaze those tonight so I can fire again tomorrow, that's right! 2 days in a row of firings, I'm on a roll.<br />

He suffered from parvo and I think he was dropped on his head as a baby or was at least raised by Gollum from the lord of the rings. You know... Gollum, this guy.<br />

They kinda look alike, right? Jackson covets a ball, not a ring but yeah, I see the resemblance. He's actually doing very well and has a new best friend Atticus, the bulldog pup that lives across the street comes over regularly for play dates.<br />

Well more dog news, I know you didn't come here to read a bunch of dog stuff but, it's all I've got LOL<br />
Some folks we know picked up a dog 3 months ago that had been left to live on his own on the street after his owner passed away. He lived on his own for 6 months until these folks found him and went door knocking in his neighborhood and that's how they learned of his history. Well they kept him for 3 months and were no longer able to keep him so... guess who has yet another new dog? Yep, me. He has some issues, but don't we all? Here he is when he first came home with me.<br />

I've always been a sucker for a Benji face, this is "Buddy". I took him to the groomers and got him all dolled up and here he is all spit shined. Size wise, he is about the same size as Jackson height wise he might have an inch on him and maybe 3-5 pounds.<br />

He and Jackson quickly became friends and he makes for a great baby sitter for Jackson. They play all day and night, it's pretty cute. He's a Yorkie mix, I'm thinking Yorkie-poo (yorkie poodle mix). He absolutely loves everyone and wants desperately to be in your lap and loves to go for rides in my truck. What he doesn't love is my cats... we're working on that. I've tackled that issue in the past, I have a pretty good method of introducing dogs and cats, especially dogs with a high prey drive. So far I have gotten him to stop the chasing and lunging at them. So that is some real progress.<br />
Well that's my update. I'm working and getting back on track, thanks for staying tuned :o)Denise Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395043495247006722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7033717411159034884.post-23993454977012752912012-03-03T22:33:00.000-08:002012-03-03T22:33:15.389-08:00My new ride<div style="text-align: left;">My sweet husband bought me a truck! I'm thrilled, I've wanted a truck for a couple of years. It's a Toyota Tundra, 4 wheel drive automatic I'm pretty sure they made this truck special for me :o) I did have to promise that I would let him drive it occasionally, that's fair enough. Right? Now I have plenty of room to tote my stuff, I could even get more stuff or bigger stuff.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnCIqL714oC_YYQYgWel-C2_qPVs3Ce9wJMnYK4Byfl50OBvTXGfuhrRwF2Otw9NXU60HFiP5dWjUWPQSoTtm0oT3AI15i3k4xBTC-isOtNyDMj8rIbUwxFaeTvrCWDgrxALXvOfhTmQvm/s1600/my+truck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnCIqL714oC_YYQYgWel-C2_qPVs3Ce9wJMnYK4Byfl50OBvTXGfuhrRwF2Otw9NXU60HFiP5dWjUWPQSoTtm0oT3AI15i3k4xBTC-isOtNyDMj8rIbUwxFaeTvrCWDgrxALXvOfhTmQvm/s320/my+truck.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">I could really redneck it up and paint a big #3 on the door hahaha! ok no... I'm not going to do that. Probably not. But I am thinking Hello Kitty floor mats or pink fuzzy dice may be in order. Maybe.</div>Denise Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395043495247006722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7033717411159034884.post-49302153692070113062012-02-27T21:57:00.000-08:002012-02-27T21:57:17.084-08:00BowlsI spent the day working on making bowls. I'm doing more of my soup bowls with a cracker pocket like these...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOO_aXW3309pZqkUad_Dn6QA4wgFX6zx0Megzz9lLO0kW2gQbpIzfh2ygLrYBrBSDhcoL1uSUrAdEI7ZVK2EiuV9cu_RWSuI3TnKGNyWeMsNXYhblFRDlJnO5Ux0AxXadTeU7bheURZFok/s1600/soup+bowl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOO_aXW3309pZqkUad_Dn6QA4wgFX6zx0Megzz9lLO0kW2gQbpIzfh2ygLrYBrBSDhcoL1uSUrAdEI7ZVK2EiuV9cu_RWSuI3TnKGNyWeMsNXYhblFRDlJnO5Ux0AxXadTeU7bheURZFok/s320/soup+bowl.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>The pocket is very handy, especially if you like sitting in front of the TV snuggled up eating chili, beef stew or soup (or ice cream! don't forget the ice cream!) while watching a movie. I don't like to put all of my crackers in my soup at once, they get all soggy and I hate that.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"> *****</div>I made a template for a new bowl a few weeks ago and today I was finally able to use it and I made some slab/ hand built bowls and decorated them with one of the stamps I carved a few weeks ago.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd2zD35Od0wVIvXL3ZY3zNq9ZC6mdtZqhKFK7Q8Sel1eLK20YQTIUCKM986vw8LIX-u04ZjqugO95EhdG7Mj2v7OQMF52G7H4A_yu_plYKAMmRODKuf7aUrTBjuQBAhthwfofY7uPit8WD/s1600/bowls.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd2zD35Od0wVIvXL3ZY3zNq9ZC6mdtZqhKFK7Q8Sel1eLK20YQTIUCKM986vw8LIX-u04ZjqugO95EhdG7Mj2v7OQMF52G7H4A_yu_plYKAMmRODKuf7aUrTBjuQBAhthwfofY7uPit8WD/s320/bowls.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I still have to clean up the rim, but overall, I'm pretty happy with these. Maybe I'll make some plates to match. I really enjoy hand building, if you are unfamiliar with that term it basically means you roll out a slab of clay and build with it. It's one of my favorite things :)<br />

Our new drama for the day, he's been collared... yes friends this poor baby has been forced to wear a collar. If he could dial a phone and speak, I'm sure he would have called animal welfare on me and reported me for abuse. He instantly was depressed, walking around with his tail tucked and cowering down as if he'd been whooped. Bless his heart... tragic isn't it? <br />

So far 2012 hasn't been very good to me. Pardon my language but I feel like I'm standing at the bottom of turd hill and shit just keeps coming at me. The good news is my finger is healed, I still have a weird little lump and it's tender when you put pressure on it, other than that, it's good.<br />
I had planned on having my store stocked up last week but... well let me tell you the craziness I went through last week. I went to the humane society and I found a great little dog who we've named Jackson. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Jackson, the first moment we met</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
On the 3rd day of this little guy being home with me he started showing signs that he wasn't feeling well. I immediately called my vet and rushed him in. I explained to doctor that he was typically borderline hyper, super friendly and that morning he acted depressed and he vomited a little and his gums were pale (because I am one of those people that checks everything and I know pale gums isn't a good thing especially when they were red and they went to a pale pink). The doc gave me all kinds of reasons why it could be happening, an obstruction, a change in food and then I tuned her out and I insisted on a parvo test, she doubted parvo but ran the test. 10-15 minutes later she walked back into the exam room and gave me the news, he was positive for parvo. I luckily caught it before it progressed to far. After going over treatment plans I just flat out asked "what would you do? if this were your dog, what would you do?" My vet and vet tech looked at each other and looked at me and both agreed that I should treat him at home. This terrified me. They said considering it was me (maybe because I'm overly protective, ridiculously anal and controlling lol) they were confident that I could do it, that was what they would do. Considering he came from a shelter and into my home, putting him back into a kennel type environment would probably depress him and he wouldn't want to eat also no one would be there in the evenings for him. So they set me up with a special food and anti vomiting pills and anti diarrhea pills and home we went. I spent about a week sleeping on the sofa with him at my side, feeding him small finger fulls of food and giving him pedialyte with a syringe every hour around the clock 24 hours a day. I had my alarm set on my cell phone to go off every hour so at night I was catching 30-40 minutes of sleep every hour if I was lucky (seriously I was so tired I was incapable of having a complete thought). I kept him from vomiting, the pills were a great help, I also literately held him like a baby and walked the floors petting his face to calm him down to try an stop the vomiting when the nausea would set in, it worked. I looked and felt like hell. I just kept thinking, this poor baby can't die on me, his life was completely in my hands. Today is day 9 and it's been a rocky road, but he is doing well. Lucky for him I was observant and acted immediately when I saw the first signs of trouble. He is eating and drinking on his own now and is doing much better, he gets tired easy and still has moments of nausea which I control by talking and petting him through it, his gums are still a little pale but over all he is doing really well. He's completely spoiled and knows I am his momma. This sweetie pie follows me everywhere I go. He has a lovely collection of toys and couldn't be a happier little dog. He still has a long way to go with healing from this mess but his outlook is good. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is one very happy doggie :o)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>My vet said he's about 6 months old and not a rat terrier as I had thought he was but he's a mountain feist, of course I had to google it because I was clueless as to what a mountain feist is, well it turns out they were bred to hunt squirrels. This spring and summer should prove interesting, I have a pecan tree and 2 peach trees in my yard and we are plagued with a huge squirrel population.I should add that treating him at home was a huge savings money wise, I saved $700.00 (the vets estimate for treatment was $850) which at the time I would have certainly paid, but so glad I didn't have to. Jackson got lucky because I knew the signs and I acted on the first symptoms. If you get a puppy or a young dog and they show symptoms that include depression, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite get your pet to the vet immediately and ask for a parvo test, <b>do not</b> take the "lets wait and see" approach, it's better to be safe than sorry. Typically the parvo virus will land your dog in the hospital hooked up to an IV and there is a good chance your dog will die. The sooner it's diagnosed the better off you and you pet will be.<br />
Jackson was picked up as a stray and was in the shelter for 6 days before I adopted him. I have no doubt in my mind that the previous owners weren't very nice to him, if you raise your voice he pitifully cowers, he's a hoarder, he collects every sock, shoe, tool, roll of tape and camera bag he can find amongst other things and drags it back to his bed.<br />

He had one accident in the house, pretty good considering he acts like he's never been inside of a house. I would venture to say that given his activity level, his prey drive and his mischievous puppy ways, he's probably been screamed at, whooped and tossed outside. He's a lot to handle especially if you think small dog = lap dog and that this little guy would be content just laying around. WRONG. I promise you that my phone conversations pretty much go like this, "Hey how are NO! you? I'm good NO! did you watch that show NO! last night? Wasn't that the funniest NO! thing you ever saw?" Now that he's got his bounce back in his step, I'm making sure he gets lots and lots of indoor and outdoor exercise, I've taught him to play fetch and come when called which comes in real handy for burning energy.<br />

So on top of dog drama, I've been working! woohoo! I had to relocate my operation from my basement studio to my kitchen table so I could be with Jackson around the clock but I'm happy to say, I have a kiln full of dunk mugs and a table full of more work in progress. I have so much pottery to glaze and fire it's ridiculous, hand built, thrown and molded.Denise Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395043495247006722noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7033717411159034884.post-6326072697736083912012-01-12T17:17:00.000-08:002012-01-12T17:17:47.712-08:00Making stampsMy finger is on the mend and I'm officially back to work, I'm still slow moving but I'm at least moving.<br />
For the past 2 days I've been tinkering with making stamps, I think I've turned out about 30 of them. Here's a peek...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjayB9yxfaN0Q0E0b8xawc1FZiPa1kQF1BM827TdvxtxPzFhyrk7TijQJ6iZQgor9Z-Tt9f0_J2WgUqsCBLgDapb0Xzj94bEUxzWd3Ug730pXBvPQ_fYZA4nrQtokz5I6ORr29ujobLDjzd/s1600/IMG_20120112_193218.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjayB9yxfaN0Q0E0b8xawc1FZiPa1kQF1BM827TdvxtxPzFhyrk7TijQJ6iZQgor9Z-Tt9f0_J2WgUqsCBLgDapb0Xzj94bEUxzWd3Ug730pXBvPQ_fYZA4nrQtokz5I6ORr29ujobLDjzd/s320/IMG_20120112_193218.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This is a good sit in front of the TV or talk on the phone task and considering I've been held captive on the phone for the past few days it's all worked out pretty good.<br />
Of course most people that work with clay are semi hoarderish when it comes to having textures and various tools, because you never know when you may be able to re-purpose something. That being said I'll admit that I have a whole plethora of <strike>shit</strike> cool stuff on hand that I can use, however I end up falling back on a few tools that just seem to do the trick. This is the small arsenal that I pulled out for this round. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFjWLcjWXFbbOtLrn3StjiP_MExXcxLsLe23woRMAOVyrzSdMwG1zcCz2sVCLDLiD4kqNsQAQAx4qKoXT2LIZ4yzi02ELYQtEDhik6Gs4k2l1U9j8PsE8NEczStu2bzVRvk_I2To4RSjsw/s1600/IMG_20120112_193438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFjWLcjWXFbbOtLrn3StjiP_MExXcxLsLe23woRMAOVyrzSdMwG1zcCz2sVCLDLiD4kqNsQAQAx4qKoXT2LIZ4yzi02ELYQtEDhik6Gs4k2l1U9j8PsE8NEczStu2bzVRvk_I2To4RSjsw/s320/IMG_20120112_193438.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">And which are my favorite tools to use? Well I'll tell ya, better yet I'll show ya.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfFgpZ2qyIfJuHQf66CDpt2kiN3mb5QDcvfytYhsxHCxGQpavC5LSKtjDY2hBMBNAIMPFkGHlnngMKVfViAd9kTtxogwg-502TGF4FaTf98IIOu3EnjEQVDZ8lSR-uFdFFEWC-e9SJRJ1J/s1600/IMG_20120112_193456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfFgpZ2qyIfJuHQf66CDpt2kiN3mb5QDcvfytYhsxHCxGQpavC5LSKtjDY2hBMBNAIMPFkGHlnngMKVfViAd9kTtxogwg-502TGF4FaTf98IIOu3EnjEQVDZ8lSR-uFdFFEWC-e9SJRJ1J/s320/IMG_20120112_193456.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>These 2 items PLUS the nail are by far the best stamp making tools I've ever used. Pictured are one of my wooden skewers and my granny's walnut picken tool (omg that sounded pretty redneck, yep... that thar's my granny's nut picker) You know back in the day when my granny was alive she always had this tray that sat on her table with nuts, there were 2 nut picks and a nut cracker and yes I'm the new nut that has them, she'd probably have a cow if she knew what I was doing with her nut picker. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">And to catch you up on where the owl landed from my last post, he landed here...<br />

Have a peek at this Lil Hooty. I rolled up a ball of clay and he just happened (actually a whole flock of them happened, wait until you see where they land). <br />

The book closest to me is one I received as a gift from some friends and it's called "The Zombie survival guide" and my answer to this turn to page 45 thing is, "<span class="commentBody" data-jsid="text">Again, although the assault riffle is not ideal for defense against the living dead, a member of the ak-47 family will be your best bet". As you can imagine, I laughed pretty damn hard. </span>Denise Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395043495247006722noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7033717411159034884.post-39521136464687389012011-12-31T18:05:00.000-08:002011-12-31T18:05:49.538-08:00I made laundry soap todayThere is a recipe floating around on <a href="http://pinterest.com/">Pintrest</a> for <a href="http://beingcreativetokeepmysanity.blogspot.com/2010/11/homemade-laundry-soap.html">making your own laundry detergent</a>. Well of course I had to try it. <br />
I even splurged and bought a 1 gallon clear glass jar for a whole 10 bucks at wally world. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbo771WXjvUbvzRtdLxyMb_dcj7RQ2MtlI9c4JEaI90mFBaGVS47bBqMbi_hJHINRTRrABxQgRD3hzG0wDcyeG-8z3Yct197D9H2fpOkGBqxA-Pq3vzaXnEv7BMozgmQnht8yir7dZuSZQ/s1600/soap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbo771WXjvUbvzRtdLxyMb_dcj7RQ2MtlI9c4JEaI90mFBaGVS47bBqMbi_hJHINRTRrABxQgRD3hzG0wDcyeG-8z3Yct197D9H2fpOkGBqxA-Pq3vzaXnEv7BMozgmQnht8yir7dZuSZQ/s320/soap.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>So this detergent is easy enough to make, it's supposedly much stronger then the stuff you buy at the grocery store. <br />
The ingredients were all found at Wal-Mart (in the laundry detergent isle) and total cost was $22.00 (not including the $10. for the jar).<br />
This is all you need:<br />
<br />
1- 4 lb box of Borax<br />
1- 4 lb box Arm & Hammer Baking Soda<br />
<div>1 box Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda 55 oz (3 lb 7 oz) </div><div>3 bars of Fels-naptha soap</div><div>1- 3 lb box of oxyclean (this is optional but I did use it for mine)<br />
<br />
</div><div>You mix up all of the ingredients, use a cheese grater to cut up the bars of Fels-naptha soap. Or cut it up in chunks like I did and toss it in the food processor, here's a tip I learned tonight. When you put the bars of soap in the food processor it's kind of sticky like cheese as it chops, BUT if you add some of the baking soda it will dry it out and be a wonderful powder consistency, I totally recommend adding the baking soda for the chopping. I lined a 5 gallon bucket with a garbage bag and dumped all of my ingredients in that and when I was done adding, I twisted the top of the bag took it out of the bucket and rolled it around and mixed it in my lap, being careful not to puncture the bag and then I dumped it into my new jar and waalaa... 1 tablespoon per load and this looks like it's going to last for a long time. </div><div>I must say... it smells pretty good. Also it does not foam like soap and other users say it is safe for High efficiency washers and front loaders.<br />
<br />

Thank god I have all my orders shipped out and I'm taking a break for the holidays because I sure would be in a mess right now. The thing about breaking a bone that I've noticed since this is my 3rd time is that the pain causes me to either feel like I'm going to throw up or pass out. Thankfully I didn't do either one but boy was it close.Denise Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395043495247006722noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7033717411159034884.post-91634997147054620742011-12-16T20:28:00.000-08:002011-12-16T20:28:21.141-08:00Home againI'm back from Fort Jackson, I picked my son up for Christmas break. He's been gone for weeks and his letters sound home sick and like he's having a bit of a rough time. So after a few glasses of wine last night I decided that the cats should write him letters. These will surely make him laugh.<br />

Today I redid the plate and if this turns out the way I'm hoping it does, this one will be so much better. It needed more color. Since this plate is for a little girl, I wanted the colors to pop and be vibrant and happy. The other colors were more pastel and the whole plate was white... boring! The good thing about making huge mistakes is you can look at it and know what needs to be tweaked. So sometimes screw ups are awesome :)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Here's my screw up... if you look closely you can see blisters in the glaze. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I also hate that it's all white. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB6E5Rj1s2_fWyJ2TPybcD09AAbyDg3AZI3Y0pHvDA5RZuDLZ7xqoUuNlpRnowRNTYAHkNmI1x_26jnr1Pb8Nf_xwfDHLWOldn-agBvog03NnmButg5xfFK7LDb8K4is1nOfTqIQBhrBUg/s1600/1st+run.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB6E5Rj1s2_fWyJ2TPybcD09AAbyDg3AZI3Y0pHvDA5RZuDLZ7xqoUuNlpRnowRNTYAHkNmI1x_26jnr1Pb8Nf_xwfDHLWOldn-agBvog03NnmButg5xfFK7LDb8K4is1nOfTqIQBhrBUg/s320/1st+run.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> And here is the new version, This is before the firing, which I watched like a hawk and it fired perfectly. This looks dull right now, but after it's fired the greens are actually a pretty bright lime green and the same goes for the reds, they will be bright red. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow when I unload my kiln. <br />

The past few days as I posted previously have been awful. Today I attempted to shake the funky mojo. I failed. I packed up a bunch of orders and went to the post office only to be told they can't take any credit cards or debit cards, their system was down for the entire nation! wow! How does that happen? So here I come back home with my orders pouting the whole way. My business account doesn't have checks, only my debt/credit card, so much for technology. So I bought myself and my wrists a new gift to make myself feel better... ready?<br />

Almost. This new baby will be here next week! Boy oh boy do I have plans for this baby! Together with my slab roller and my new extruder I'll be ready to take on the world or at least my own little world within my studio lolDenise Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395043495247006722noreply@blogger.com0
